This is one of the best Cd’s The Chieftains has dropped to date. It has been ten years The Chieftains’ last studio CD, “The Chieftains 3″ which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. There is no doubt that The Chieftains has talent. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Music of is gentle, never overbearing.
The Chieftains sings Sonny’s Mazurka / Tommy Hunt’s Jig in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Eibhli Gheal Chiuin Ni Chearbhaill (Bright Quiet Eily O’Carroll) / Delahunty’s Hornpipe is one of these floating songs. The Hunter’s Purse is the album’s biggest hit, I think. The March of the King of Laois or Ruairi Og O’Mordha - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. This song may be the most meaningful. Tom Billy’s Reel / The Road to Lisdoonvarna / The Merry Sisters is a very catchy tune. An Ghaoth Anea (The South Wind) is such a exquisite and optimistic song that things can get just better. So much energy, so exciting a sound. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. An Raibh Tu ag an gCarraig? (Were You at the Rock?) motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. John Kelly’s Slide / Merrily kiss the Quaker / Denis Murphy’s Slide is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music.
