It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Fred Morrison energies, virtually a rebirth. There is no doubt that Fred Morrison has talent. On The sound of the Sun album, Fred Morrison have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This is one of Fred Morrison best albums
is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done.
I loved Donald MacLean’s the first time I heard it. The Wedding Reel is really a nice song to relax and listen too. The sound in The Sound if the Sun is really warm and Fred Morrison’s signature voice is still very much present. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. Get The sound of the Sun and turn on Colin’s Cattle if you are going to sip your wine late at night. I’ve found myself listening to Alick C MacGregor back to back and back many times. This track is full of harmonies and gets The sound of the Sun off to a relaxing start. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Sheenagh’s Waltz is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. I have all of Fred Morrison’s tracks and Sandy Cameron’s is probably the most his introspective effort. Drumbuie sets the tone for the entire album.
