Since Alasdair Fraser and Tony McManus last CD (Return To Kintail) on Blue Note Records back in 1999, I have felt a massive void in my life. ‘Return To Kintail’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Alasdair Fraser and Tony McManus’s album Return To Kintail falls to No. 2 with 106,000, a sales slide of 80%. Last Hot Album by Alasdair Fraser and Tony McManus
Charming song, great melody.
Ross’ Reel No. 4/Reichswall Forest is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Roslin Castle/Miss Gordon of Gight make listening to Alasdair Fraser and Tony McManus like being in some sort of time warp. The Marquis of Huntley/The Ewie wi’ the Crooked Horn/John Cheap the Chapman/Peerie Weerie/West Mabou Reel is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. I was truly moved when I heard Calum Sgaire. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Donald Willie and His Dog/Alex MacDonald/Chloe’s Passion, which shows, blatantly, how much Alasdair Fraser and Tony McManus has evolved as a singer. Alasdair Fraser and Tony McManus offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Sitting in the Stern of a Boat is a very catchy tune. A Mhaighdean Mhara (The Mermaid) is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Lieutenant Maguire’s Jig/The Curlew/Sleepy Maggie/Tail Toddle is absolutely incredible. The Sweetness of Mary/Devil in the Kitchen/Willie Davie/The Sound of Mull/High Road to Linton is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. No Alasdair Fraser and Tony McManus song has come close to capturing my attention as Theidh Mi Dhachaigh (Return to Kintail) did.
