Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of James Brown on ‘Same Beat, Pt. 1 [*] - Wesley, Fred & The’. There is no doubt that James Brown has talent. I am not a real Jazz: Funk music type of person, but i have to admit ‘James Brown’s Funky People Vol.1′ really is amazing. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like James Brown’s Funky People Vol.1.
is just simply stunning.
(It’s Not the Express) It’s the J.B.’s Monaurail, Pt. 1 - Fred & The New JB’s as a highlight of James Brown’s Funky People Vol.1 contains a ton of excellent melodies. Parrty, Pt. 1 - Maceo & The Macks which is my favorite is a truly James Brown sounding song. If You Don’t Get It the First Time, Back up and Try It Again, Party - Wesley, Fred - James Brown first major hit. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Take Me, Just as I Am - Collins, Lyn because the melody in the chorus is so good. Damn Right I Am Somebody (Pts. 1 & 2) - Wesley, Fred is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Once Rock Me Again & Again & Again & Again & Again & Again - Collins, Lyn gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Hot Pants Road - JB’s is a striking and quite long song. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Mama Feelgood - Collins, Lyn from the beginning to the end. Givin’ up Food for Funk, Pt. 1 - JB’s very upbeat. James Brown sings Think (About It) - Collins, Lyn in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. I listened to the opening track Pass the Peas - JB’s and liked it a lot. Gimme Me Some More - JB’s is probably the highlight of the album.
