Since Shellac last CD (1000 Hurts) on Columbia Records back in 2000, I have felt a massive void in my life. Shellac’s debut, ‘1000 Hurts’, does not fit easily into one genre. For older fans 1000 Hurts will put a massive smile accross your face. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
One of the songs that always stick in my mind is because the melody in the chorus is so good.
Outside of the singles, my favorite song on 1000 Hurts is Squirrel Song. Mama Gina is so unique, as each one of the songs is. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Music of Ghosts is gentle, never overbearing. Song Against Itself is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. New Number Order the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Only one song from 1000 Hurts named Shoe Song really got me. The opening track Watch Song is very much like you would expect from other albums.
