When you buy a Pretenders album, you know exactly what you’re getting! On Greatest Hits album, Pretenders have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Since Pretenders last CD (Greatest Hits) on Sparrow Records back in 2000, I have felt a massive void in my life. Greatest Hits is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
One listen to the sheer beauty of was all I needed.
Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Back On The Chain Gang. The sound in Brass In Pocket is really warm and Pretenders’s signature voice is still very much present. Breakfast In Bed was the first single release from the album Greatest Hits. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Within the first few notes of Forever Young it’s perfectly clear that Pretenders is living this song. Human is a fine track on any terms. In Hymn To Her Pretenders is at his best. I Go To Sleep is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. In I Got You Babe Pretenders spins a tale you want to hear to the end. Ill Stand By You is really a nice song to relax and listen too. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Message Of Love has a fun tempo. What sets Middle Of The Road apart is Pretenders’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Lyrics of Night In My Veins are precise and evocative. Popstar is a good listen every once in a while. Spiritual High State Of Independence gets you up and jumping. You have to get essence of the Stop Your Sobbing’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Pretenders offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Thin Line Between Love And Hate is almost impossible to review.
